Baserunning Evaluation:

Colson, your exceptional speed on the basepaths is a remarkable asset that sets you apart from many players your age. Your ability to quickly cover ground is a valuable skill that will serve you well as you continue to develop as a baseball player. This natural gift provides you with a solid foundation for becoming an elite baserunner and a constant threat to opposing teams.

While your speed is impressive, there's room for improvement in your overall body control during baserunning. Maintaining an upright posture as you run is crucial for maximizing your speed and agility. By focusing on keeping your body more vertical, you'll be able to take longer, more efficient strides and maintain better balance, especially when rounding bases or making quick directional changes. This adjustment will not only make your baserunning more effective but also reduce the risk of losing speed or stumbling during crucial moments on the basepaths.

To enhance your baserunning technique, I recommend incorporating specific drills that focus on proper running form and body control. Practice running short distances while consciously keeping your chest up and your head steady. Gradually increase the distance and add baserunning scenarios, such as rounding bases or reacting to hit balls. Additionally, working with a running coach or watching videos of professional baserunners can provide valuable insights into maintaining proper form. Remember, Colson, by refining your body control and running technique, you'll be able to fully harness your impressive speed, making you an even more formidable threat on the basepaths.

Colson,

Your swing mechanics show great promise, and it's clear you've been working hard on developing a solid foundation. Your overall swing path and timing are impressive for a player your age, which gives you a strong base to build upon as you continue to grow and develop as a hitter.

One area we'd like to focus on improving is keeping your head steady and eyes locked on the ball through contact. Currently, you have a tendency to pull your head off the ball just before making contact. This can lead to inconsistent contact and reduced power. To address this, try incorporating some soft toss drills where you consciously focus on watching the ball hit the bat. Another helpful exercise is to practice your swing in front of a mirror, paying close attention to keeping your head still throughout the entire swing motion.

Another aspect we noticed is that you sometimes release the bat with one hand after contact, rather than maintaining a two-handed follow-through. While you did a great job keeping both hands on the bat in this particular swing, consistency is key. A two-handed follow-through can help improve your control and power. To reinforce this, practice your swing focusing on keeping both hands on the bat all the way through to the finish position. You can also try some tee work where you deliberately exaggerate the two-handed follow-through, helping to build muscle memory for this technique. Remember, Colson, keeping your head on the ball and maintaining a two-handed grip through contact will significantly enhance your hitting performance. Keep up the great work!

PLAYERS WAY EVALUATION AND TEST SCORE

ATHLETES FIRST - DEVELOPMENT DRIVEN - POTENTIAL MAXIMIZED
Colson,

At The Players Way, our mission is simple—athlete development comes first. Every score here is a reflection of where you are in your journey, not just what you’ve done, but how you’re progressing.

These evaluations are built on a clear methodology: skill introduction, understanding, execution, and mastery. Your scores help us—and you—identify strengths, target growth areas, and unlock your full potential.

Keep pushing.
