Nicholas,

Your baserunning evaluation shows promising potential, particularly in your footwork and body control. Your feed placement is excellent, demonstrating a good understanding of efficient running technique. This skill will serve you well as you continue to develop as a baserunner, allowing you to maintain balance and generate power through your strides.

However, there's an opportunity to improve your overall speed by focusing on your arm action. Currently, your arm screen (the position and movement of your arms while running) may be limiting your speed potential. By working on a more efficient arm motion, keeping your arms at roughly 90-degree angles and swinging them forward and back (rather than across your body), you can increase your running efficiency and potentially boost your speed on the basepaths.

While your body control is good, which is crucial for quick direction changes and maintaining balance when rounding bases, there's room for improvement in arm control. Developing better synchronization between your arm and leg movements will contribute to smoother, faster running. Practice drills that focus on arm-leg coordination, such as high knees with exaggerated arm swings, or controlled sprints focusing on arm position. Remember, at your age, these skills are still developing, so consistent practice and attention to technique will yield significant improvements over time.

Nicholas,

Your performance at the Players Way Summer Series Camp showed promising potential in your hitting mechanics. Your natural swing has good elements, but there are a couple of key areas we can focus on to enhance your power and consistency at the plate.

The primary aspect we'll work on is maintaining your head position through contact. Currently, you have a tendency to pull your head off the ball as you swing, which can lead to inconsistent contact and reduced power. By keeping your head down and eyes focused on the point of contact, you'll improve your ability to track the ball and make solid contact more consistently. This will also help you hit to all fields more effectively, making you a more complete hitter.

Another important area for improvement is your grip and follow-through. You've shown a habit of releasing the bat with one hand during your swing, which can decrease your control and power. We'll work on keeping both hands on the bat throughout the entire swing, from the load to the follow-through. This two-handed approach will help you maintain better bat control, increase your power potential, and reduce the tendency to pull away from the ball. With dedicated practice on these elements, you'll likely see significant improvements in your overall hitting performance, Nicholas.

Nicholas,

Your pitching delivery is truly impressive, especially for your age. The aggressiveness and power you generate are standout qualities that will serve you well as you continue to develop. It's clear that you've put a lot of effort into maximizing your physical potential, using every bit of your body to create force behind your pitches. This commitment to utilizing your entire frame is a great foundation for your pitching mechanics and will be a significant asset as you grow and gain more strength.

One area where you can focus on improvement is your directional consistency. At times, your leg swing opens up prematurely, which can affect your accuracy and potentially reduce the effectiveness of your pitches. To address this, concentrate on maintaining a straight line towards home plate throughout your delivery. A practical drill to help with this is to place a strip of tape from your starting position on the mound straight towards home plate. Practice your delivery while trying to keep your foot landing on or very close to this line. This will help you internalize the feeling of a direct, powerful delivery.

Keep up the excellent work, Nicholas. Your aggressive style and efficient use of your body are already setting you apart at this young age. As you continue to refine your direction and consistency, you'll likely see improvements in both your velocity and control. Remember, small adjustments can lead to significant improvements over time. Stay dedicated to your craft, and don't hesitate to ask your coaches for feedback as you work on your directional consistency. With your current skills and a commitment to ongoing improvement, you have a bright future ahead in pitching.
